چکیده

Malate dehydrogenase isolated from leaves of the cotton plant (Gossypium hirsutum L.) appears in the form of several isoenzymes. Four of the isoenzymes found in cotton leaf extracts appear to be charge isomers with a molecular weight of approximately 60,000. A fifth malate dehydrogenase isoenzyme found in leaf extracts has a molecular weight of approximately 500,000. Under appropriate conditions it is possible to form this high molecular weight isoenzyme from at least one of the smaller isoenzymes. In addition, malate dehydrogenase isoenzymes of approximately 700,000 and 130,000 molecular weight have been observed under some conditions, although these isoenzymes do not appear in the crude cotton leaf preparations. The relationship of this heterogeneity with respect to size and to the discrepancies in the number and size of malate dehydrogenase isoenzymes reported from plant tissues may be significant.

An electrophoretic analysis of the isozymes of malate dehydrogenase in several different plants.

The particulate and soluble fractions of cell-free extracts from seeds, roots, and leaves of 10 different plants were examined electrophoretically for isozymes of malate dehydrogenase. Distinct isozyme patterns were observed for each plant and even for the individual tissues of each species. There were some isozymes in several different plant extracts with equal electrophoretic mobilities, but ...

Induction of malate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in livers of young and old rats.

The activity of cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.27) of livers of young (9-10 weeks) and old (60-70 weeks) rats decreases after adrenalectomy and increases after administration of cortisone to adrenalectomized rats. These changes are significantly lower in old rats. The induction by cortisone is inhibited by actinomycin D. Adrenalectomy decreases and cortisone increases the activity o...

Comparative Genome-Wide Analysis of the Malate Dehydrogenase Gene Families in Cotton

Malate dehydrogenases (MDHs) play crucial roles in the physiological processes of plant growth and development. In this study, 13 and 25 MDH genes were identified from Gossypium raimondii and Gossypium hirsutum, respectively. Using these and 13 previously reported Gossypium arboretum MDH genes, a comparative molecular analysis between identified MDH genes from G. raimondii, G. hirsutum, and G. ...

The mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase 1 gene GhmMDH1 is involved in plant and root growth under phosphorus deficiency conditions in cotton

Cotton, an important commercial crop, is cultivated for its natural fibers, and requires an adequate supply of soil nutrients, including phosphorus, for its growth. Soil phosporus exists primarily in insoluble forms. We isolated a mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase (MDH) gene, designated as GhmMDH1, from Gossypium hirsutum L. to assess its effect in enhancing P availability and absorption. An e...

The activity and isoforms of NADP-malic enzyme in Nicotiana benthamiana plants under biotic stress.

The activity and presence of isoforms of NADP-dependent malic enzyme (NADP-ME, EC 1.1.1.40) were studied in non-transgenic and transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana plants containing potyviral gene for helper component protease (HC-pro) and in plants infected by Potato virus Y strain NTN (PVY(NTN)). No significant changes in enzyme activities and isoenzyme pattern were observed due to foreign gene i...
